In Atlanta, Georgia on January 15th 1929, Martin Luther King was born. Martin was also the second child of a pastor, and a former school teacher. Although being one of the most influential people in history, Martin Luther King, worked very hard to get where he did. King skipped ninth and tenth grade in high school, graduating at the age of 15 and continued on with his studies at Morehouse College.  After Morehouse, he went to Crozer Theological Seminary where Dr. King, Jr. was also elected studdent body president. King ended his studies with a doctorate from Boston University. Martin Luther King, Junior was very well known for his “I have a Dream” speech but also for being a nonviolent Civil Rights activist and standing up for what he believed in.In addition Martin will change Civil Rights forever. He was and still is such an inspiration to many people and that’s why Martin Luther King Jr. was such an impeccable human being. ("Martin Luther King")

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education” What King was saying in his quote is the purpose of education is to challenge someone to  think for themselves. In his eyes if you’re not being challenged, you’re not learning anything new and that’s purposeless. In the life of Martin Luther King Jr., he was put through many struggles and under the circumstances MLK did what he needed to do in order to succeed with his education.

This truth has been reflected in my life now, but also in my past learning experiences. In middle school and high school, I would always see kids sharing answers and helping each other out, so I began to think it was alright too. At the time I didn’t realize the harm I was doing myself. I was cheating myself out of an education by not challenging myself. The definition of education is “The knowledge and development resulting from an educational process” The definition of character is "one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual." Once you get passed the difficulties and challenges education puts you through, you’ll feel a sense of pride and nothing will be able to beat that.
